The First Note

cello_instrumentBack in 1991, I attended a chamber music concert with a friend. Part of a series sponsored by the Illinois Philharmonic, this particular performance included members of the string section. Seated behind the cello was a smaller woman, who made the instrument look even bigger than usual. My thought process went something like this. “That looks like a giant violin… what if it was a giant’s violin…?”

For years, that idea bounced around in the back of my head, percolating, brewing, taking shape and form, but never fully materializing. Then, about six months ago, a friend was telling me about the popularity of children’s books on kickstarter, and I started thinking about this idea, and others like it. So, inspired by my own firstborn, now a toddler, I set to work writing my first three drafts in a few days, and then illustrating the first book, the one that I had thought about the longest. So check it out and let me know what you think. There’s plenty more where this one came from, a whole symphony of stories waiting to be told.
